Frozen dough?? I think you are mistaking this for PIZZA HUT (which by the way, was voted Best of East Hawaii somehow this year, AGAIN). Jim and Joy King (the owners of Big Island Pizza) put more hard work and love into their business than anyone I have met around here lately. The dough and sauce are made there each and every day. I have watched it happen - they are friends of mine. Big Island Pizza is the ONLY pizza place I will go to in town, and one of the only places in Hilo that I will spend my money to eat at.
"Moose" sounds like a Pizza Hawaii employee that needs to take an anger management class... don't you think?

It's a bit sad what can pass for "Gourmet" around town. That crust arrives frozen, pre-baked from the mainland. Then, they slap on some canned tomato sauce (perhaps with some "italian herbs" added?), a nifty topping or two, and charge a pretty penny for what is essentially a reconstructed Digiorno.

At least Pizza Hawaii works with raw pizza dough (though I suspect it comes out of a box or a bucket as well). Despite firing their pizzas in a convection oven, they still manage to crank out the best "Pizza Joint" product in town.

Now if someone actually bothered to make crust and sauce themselves (and knew what they were doing), I'd be the first to drop $30 for it. Till then, I can only browse the net for pizza centerfold photos (hustler-style), or if really desperate, make one myself.

Nice photos for your blog, by the way. -Moose
