Hilo Bay Sugar Shack

Need a little break from shopping at the Hilo Farmer’s Market? Check out Hilo Bay Sugar Shack, located right next to the Farmer’s Market. They make a great halo halo, the popular Filipino desert.

The fruits in the halo halo were really good, especially the shredded coconut, which tasted really fresh. There were even slices of fresh avocado and it was topped with a cherry (kind of odd, no?). Make sure to top it with ube ice cream! It’s the only way to have it.
Maybe they get some of their fruits from the Farmer’s Market, which is why it tastes really good.

They also serve ice shave, ice cream, smoothies, and other kind of snacks.

James,
I almost stopped here after going to the Farmer’s Market and before heading over to Two Ladies Kitchen. I should have stopped because that halo halo looks so refreshing especially with the ube ice cream.

so, I’m not a halo-halo fan. But that purple ice cream looks good. Ube is yam, right? I don’t know why it seems so weird, I mean–Liliha Bakery makes that azuki danish (really ono) and it seemed strange until I tried it, but ube ice cream? I just get these mental images of potato tempura.

Saw this post and had to go check it out with my g-friend today. I gotta say, the halo halo was pretty ono! Although it was short the avocado, the sweet potato they put on the bottom complimented the ice cold ube ice cream on the top. Ono-licious!
