Splashers Grill
We stayed over for a night in Kona for the long Labor Day weekend, and it was so nice! The beach, sunsets, and all the people… it reminds me of Waikiki a little bit, but less crowded.
There were also canoe races at Kailua Bay, which my friend told me is the biggest canoe race in the world. Even Japan was there representing with their flag hanging from the back of their canoe!
We wanted to watch the race and we were hungry too, so we chose to have burgers and beer at Splasher’s Grill. They had a perfect view of the race. The burgers also looked very good and juicy.
We ordered two Big Splash Burgers and I had a Fire Rock Pale Ale (so yummy!).
The Big Splash Burger has a thick 1/2lb beef patty, sesame seed bun, 2 slices of cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle, and a choice of fries, onion rings or green salad. Our neighbor had onion rings, and they were HUGE — would like to try those next time. This burger was so good! The patty was especially very juicy and flavorful. The toppings were all fresh, and the cheese was a nice rich cheddar. The bun was also nice and toasty. Bev loved the fries — they “stayed crispy from start to finish”.
Splasher’s Grill was a great choice if you want a good burger and fries, plus the view can’t be beat!
Check out what else we saw in Kona!
Reid, I didn’t know you had your own restaurant!!
I really wanted to go here, but never had the chance to.
On the way back to Hilo in Waimea, someone noticed me from my blog. I never expected that to happen! Whoever that was, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to talk more… my hands were full (of rice and poke from Foodland) and we were just about to leave, but it was nice meeting you… have you left a comment here before? Thanks for saying hi!
And lastly, we don’t get these in Hilo…

Howzit Braddah!
I was the one who recognized you in the Waimea Parking lot with your wife eating poke. Small kine celebrity status you guys! LOL!
My wife and I love checking out your blogs and restaurant reviews . You should turn this one into a Tv show on one of the local stations!
Keep up the great work and enthusiams towards our local cuisine!

Yeah, Hilo Artist is right. Go for it. Of course, I can’t watch it living on the mainland, but still yet, right? TV show.

Hey Lou, sure doesn’t get any better than that, especially in Kona
Eh Hilo Artist!! Ahhh.. you get one good eye…
A local food show on the local stations would be awesome. The bad thing is that i’m really camera shy… i guess that’s why i love blogging since i get to stay somewhat anonymous… except when ppl like you notice me even tho i usually don’t post any photos of myself (i think only time was when i got married?)… lol.. well, my wife and i felt very flattered anyways! plus if more ppl knew me, then i would get special treatment when i go eat some restaurant.
We never got to try Kamuela Provision Company, but i’ll definitely keep that in mind next time i’m out that side.
BTW, I visited your site and your artwork is amazing! Thanks for commenting
jodi, well, if i did have a show, i think i should put the archives online for all to view! but again, i’m way too camera shy

Howzit James
Thanks for checking out my site and the kind words.
I found your site after going through major league food obsession from a major league diet!
In my spare time, I do costume acting and TV work and have to keep this insanely light weight which my body is normally not. I am naturally a big guy and I returned to this same fatty once again! LOL!
So after being deprived of real food for a few months I searched the net for places to eat after my gigs. That is how I found your site and Reid’s site.
Anyway just wanted to mention, went to Hilo Bay hotel where I recently held my wifes birthday party. The food was outstanding! Free entertainment!and the menu for parties includes soft drinks and dessert which other Hilo eateries dont do for parties.
Anyway keep up the great work and I will have to go back on this diet and only dream of culinary bliss once again..
