K’s Drive In: Loco Moco
Yet another loco moco review from Big Island Grinds!
This time, I went to K’s Drive In since it’s right down the street from me. K’s looks like an old-fashioned type of drive in with lots of open seating. I’m pretty sure K’s has been here for a long time.
Sorry about the photo quality… it was night time.
Here is the order window with specials on the side. They are famous for their fried rice w/korean chicken (first item on menu), which I can say is very good!
Here’s their loco moco!
Another view…
Loco Moco essentials… minus the Tabasco!

Da Review
- Burger: A bit disappointing. The texture was mushy and the flavor was not that great.
- Gravy: Taste like standard loco moco gravy, but it was a little too salty. It was too thin too.
- Eggs: Just ok. They were a little tough since they overcooked it too much.
- Rice: A little mushy.
- Price: $2.20

Beer run? How convenient. Kadota Liquors has an excellent wine selection as well!
K’s Drive In’s loco moco isn’t a good measure to judge their food by. I would definitely recommend the Fried Rice w/Korean Chicken and also any of their Filipino specials. They get plenny ono local kine style plate lunches! I’ll review again.

James,
You have to have the turnovers from K’s. Was it pineapple? I can’t really remember.

James - That kinda an odd shaped burger! But $2.20, can’t beat that price. You’d laugh, but I had a loco moco last night here in San Diego it cost $6.45! This is real food porn for me - I love loco’s!!! Oh, and it’s always plenny tabasco, and pepper on the mac salad for me.

Reid! I forgot to mention the turnovers. They have great pineapple and apple ones I think… or it might’ve been pineapple/peach ones.
Hey Kirk, the burger was a little oval

I think the cheapest price I’ve seen here is just under 2 bucks at Freddy’s… a decent one too for the price. Man, $6.45? I hope you blogged that one

Believe me, 1 of the $6 loco was not worth even one half of the $2 loco.

I’m from honolulu. I would like to know if you have tried the korean chicken @ the former Kay’s Lunch Center. Is this Korean chicken from K’s Drive In better than Kay’s Lunch Center? I really liked the chicken from Kay’s Lunch Center. I may want to try the one @ K’s Drive In. I will not have too much time in Hilo so, I want to either go to K’s Drive In, try that pizza place, Big Island Pizza, or go to eat @ Reuben’s. Which do you suggest? Can you please e-mail me with your response? Thank you.

Allison, thanks for visiting…
I love the korean chicken from the former Kay’s, too! I also tried it after the owners changed and now it’s Kalbi House… and it tasted the same, thankfully. K’s drive in’s style of korean chicken is a bit different. It’s “wetter” with more of the sauce… and a bit oily. Very tasty, but I still like Kay’s bettter.. better crispiness and balance of taste.
Big Island Pizza, I can’t say too much about since I only tried it once, and it wasn’t too fresh when I tried it, but it was pretty good. The crust was nice and chewy, but I wish it were more crusty. I heard a lot of good things about them though, and their toppings are top notch.
Reubens is one of my favorites! If you like mexican food, then you’ll love it. Their hot sauce they serve is spicy and tastes so good with chips or nachos. I love their enchiladas and flautas too. And try one of their margaritas… a lot of ppl like the li hing mui one.
